| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE November 19, 2017 Thibodaux Man Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash Terrebonne Parish – Shortly before 6:30 pm, Troopers with Troop C began investigating a three-vehicle fatality crash on LA 311 near Bull Run Road. The crash took the life of 76 year old Philip Aucoin Jr. The preliminary investigation revealed 49 year Troy Leblanc was traveling north on LA 311 in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Aucoin was traveling south on LA 311 in a 2005 Chevrolet Impala. For reasons still under investigation, Leblanc crossed the center line and struck Aucoin’s vehicle head-on. A 2003 Ford Explorer, being driven by 40 year old TJ Small of Schriever, was following behind Aucoin and struck debris in the road after the first impact. Despite being properly restrained, Aucoin suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Leblanc and his passenger, 68 year old Laura Hue of Thibodaux, suffered minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance Service. They were both properly restrained at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/or drug use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash; however, a standard toxicology test is pending on the part of Aucoin through the Coroner’s Office. Leblanc submitted a blood sample for testing and the results are pending through the State Police Crime Lab. Although the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists about the dangers of distracted driving. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.
