Slidell Man Killed as Boat Strikes his Vehicle in St. James Parish

St. James Parish – Shortly before 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 18 at Pecan Street. The crash took the life of 49 year old David Burvant of Slidell, LA.

The preliminary investigation revealed 20 year old Jeremiah Allee of St. Amant was traveling north on LA 18 in a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado. He was towing a boat and trailer. Burvant was traveling south on LA 18 approaching Allee. As the vehicles approached one another, for reasons still under investigation, Allee’s boat trailer detached from his vehicle, crossed the center line, and struck Burvant’s vehicle in the passenger compartment. Burvant was properly restrained but sustained critical injuries. He was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Gonzales by Acadian Ambulance Service. Burvant later died from his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced deceased by hospital staff. Allee was not injured and was wearing his seat belt.

Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash; however, a standard toxicology test is pending on the part of Burvant. Allee submitted to a breath test which showed no alcohol present.

Troopers wish to remind motorists that while towing or hauling objects, Louisiana law states all items must be secured and/or covered while traveling on our roadways. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
