Troopers Seek Hit & Run Vehicle that Killed Pedestrian in Ascension Parish Crash

Sorrento –Shortly before 4:00 pm on February 9, 2018, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a hit and run fatality involving a pedestrian on US 61 south of Interstate 10 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 49 year old Patrick Lester of St. Francisville. Troopers are now asking for your assistance in locating the hit and run vehicle and driver.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Lester was walking on the northbound side of US 61. For reasons still under investigation, Lester was struck by a vehicle and sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, Troopers believe that the suspect vehicle is a tan Toyota Corolla or Camry. The suspect vehicle should have significant damage to the front right side and missing the passenger’s side mirror.

This crash remains under investigation, and Troopers ask that anyone with any information regarding this crash please contact Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500.

Troopers urge pedestrians to maintain a heightened level of awareness while walking near the road. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, and walking a safe distance from travel lanes while facing oncoming traffic could help prevent many pedestrian related crashes. Motorists should also remain vigilant for pedestrians. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
