| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE March 3, 2018 Single Vehicle Crash Kills One in Lafourche Parish Raceland – Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on March 2, 2018, Troop C responded to a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 308 just south of Peltier Drive. The crash took the life of 29 year old Soni Tran of Thibodaux. The preliminary investigation revealed Tran was traveling south on LA 308 in a 2005 Honda Accord when he entered a left curve in the roadway. For reasons still under investigation, Tran ran off of the road to the right and struck an embankment. Although Tran was properly restrained at the time of the crash, he suffered fatal injuries as a result of the impact. Tran was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and drug involvement is unknown as a factor in this crash. Standard toxicology tests are pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Troopers want to remind the public to avoid distracted driving and always buckle up. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.
