TROOP C NEWS RELEASE July16, 2018 Head-On Collision Kills Two in Lafourche Parish Crash Chackbay – Shortly before 10:00 p.m. last night, Troopers with Troop C began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 20 near Farmer Lane. The crash took the lives of the driver, 22 year old Raini Scioneaux of Gramercy, and her passenger, 23 year old Brennan Clement of Vacherie. The preliminary investigation revealed Scioneaux was traveling south on LA 20 in a 2018 Nissan Sentra. For reasons still under investigation, Scioneaux’s vehicle ran off of the roadway to the right and she overcorrected to the left in an attempt to regain control. Scioneaux crossed the center line where struck a 2013 Lexus G46 that was traveling northbound on LA 20. It was being driven by 49 year old George Popov of Baton Rouge. Scioneaux and Clement were not wearing their seat belts and suffered fatal injuries. They were pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Popov was properly restrained and was not injured. Popov’s passenger, 17 year old Aleksander Popov, was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. He was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance Service. Impairment is unknown on the part of Scioneaux and a standard toxicology report is pending through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Popov was found to be impaired and he was placed under arrest. He refused the breath test and a search warrant was obtained for a blood sample. The results are pending through the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Popov was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center for 2nd Offense Driving While Intoxicated.
