Cut Off – Shortly after 2:30 this afternoon, Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 308 near East 70^th Street. The crash took the life of 28 year old Stephanie Bellanger of Golden Meadow.

The preliminary investigation revealed 26 year old Reagan Bruce of Larose was traveling north on LA 308 in a 2013 Cadillac ATS. Bellanger was traveling south on LA 308 in a 2007 Pontiac G6. For reasons still under investigation, Bruce ran off of the road to the right in a left curve. She overcorrected to the left, crossed the center line, and struck Bellanger’s vehicle in the southbound lane of LA 308. Bruce was properly restrained but suffered serious injuries. She was transported to Lady of the Sea General Hospital by South Lafourche Ambulance Service. Bruce was later flown to University Medical Center in New Orleans for further treatment by Acadian Ambulance Service Air Med. Bellanger was also properly restrained but suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending on the part of Bellanger through the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Although the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Troopers want to remind motorists of the importance of making safe driving decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, and fatigued driving continue to be factors in preventable crashes. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.
