| TROOP C NEWS RELEASE September 8, 2018 Early Morning Crash Claims Two Lives in St. James Parish St. James – Shortly before 3:30 this morning, Troopers with Troop C responded to a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 3127 north of LA 3219. The crash took the lives of 24 year old Patrick Miller of Columbus, GA and 31 year old Raymond Walker of Martin, TN. The preliminary investigation revealed Miller was traveling north on LA 3127 in a 2011 Mazda 3. Walker was traveling south on LA 3127 in a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier. For reasons still under investigation, Miller crossed the center line and struck Walker’s vehicle head-on. Miller was properly restrained at the time of the crash but suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Walker’s vehicle ran off of the roadway after impact and rolled onto its roof. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames and he suffered fatal injuries. Walker was also pronounced deceased on scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is unknown as a factor at this time and a standard toxicology test is pending on the part of both drivers. Troopers are continuing their investigation to determine if Walker was wearing his seat belt during the crash. Troopers wish to remind motorists that all occupants of a motor vehicle must be restrained, regardless of seating position. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
