One Killed as Vehicle Became Submerged in Terrebonne Parish Crash

Houma – Shortly after 1:00 a.m. this morning, Troop C began investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash on LA 56 near Rouen Street. The crash took the life of 30 year old Brittany Jones of Gray, LA.

The preliminary investigation revealed Jones was traveling north on LA 56 in a 2001 Ford Mustang. Jones was exiting a left curve in the roadway when, for unknown reasons, she ran off of the roadway to the right. Jones’ vehicle struck a utility pole and continued into Bayou Terrebonne where her vehicle became completely submerged. Jones sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is unknown as a factor in this crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending. Seat belt use is also unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists that while not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
