Neil’s front seat passenger was properly restrained and suffered moderate injuries during the crash. She was transported to University Medical Center in New Orleans by Acadian Ambulance Service Airmed. Matherne was properly restrained during the crash, suffered minor injuries, and was not transported to a hospital. Impairment is unknown to be a factor at this time and toxicology tests are pending on the part of both drivers. This crash remains under investigation and charges are pending. Although the cause of this crash remains under investigation, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists about the dangers of distracted driving. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.
