Motorcyclist Killed After Crossing the Center Line in Terrebonne Parish Crash

Houma – Shortly before 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, Troop C was notified of a two-vehicle fatality crash on LA 311 near Ellendale Country Club. The crash took the life of 37 year old Ricky Rieve of Gray.

The preliminary investigation revealed Rieve was traveling south on LA 311 on a 2014 Harley Davidson. For unknown reasons, Rieve crossed the center line and struck a 2009 Toyota Scion head-on. It was being driven by 27 year old Arin Stewart of Houma. Rieve was wearing a DOT approved helmet but sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced deceased on scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Stewart was properly restrained and sustained minor injuries. She was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance Service.

Impairment is not suspected as a factor in this crash; however, standard toxicology tests are pending on the part of Rieve.

Although not all crashes are survivable, Troopers would like to encourage all riders to take an approved motorcycle safety course. These courses help you apply safe riding strategies that can help reduce your chance of injury should a crash occur. Making good choices while riding a motorcycle, such as never driving while impaired and obeying all traffic laws, can often mean the difference between life and death.
