TROOP C NEWS RELEASE School Crossing Guard Killed While Working in Active School Zone Lafourche Parish – This morning, shortly before 8:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C responded to a crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 20 in Lafourche Parish. The crash claimed the life of a Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office school crossing guard. The initial investigation revealed the crossing guard was struck by a 2000 Ford F-150 pickup as it was traveling south in front of Chackbay Elementary School. The truck was driven by 83-year-old Jerry Matt of Thibodeaux. Matt was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
