TROOP A NEWS RELEASE July 24, 2014 Two Mississippi Residents Killed in East Feliciana Parish Head-on Crash Norwood – Shortly before 12:30 pm on July 24, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 67 north of LA Hwy 422 near the Mississippi State Line in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 86 year old William K. Blalock and his granddaughter, 19 year old Ariel M. Foster, both of Liberty, MS. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Blalock was driving a 2010 Kia Optima northbound on LA Hwy 67. At the same time 46 year old Sidney Rollins, III of Liberty, MS was driving a 1999 Western Star tractor-trailer (a log truck) southbound on LA Hwy 67. For unknown reasons Blalock’s Kia crossed the centerline in a left hand curve. Upon doing so the Kia struck the tractor-trailer head-on in the southbound lane. Both vehicles then ran off the roadway and became engulfed in flames. Despite the fact that both Blalock and Foster were properly restrained they sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Rollins was properly restrained and suffered only minor injuries. Driver impairment is not suspected on the part of either driver; however, toxicology samples were taken from both and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
