TROOP A NEWS RELEASE August 20, 2014 Troopers Arrest Denham Springs Man for Third Offense DWI / Find Meth in His Vehicle Denham Springs – On August 19, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop “A” arrested 47 year old David K. Poole of Denham Springs for 3rd offense DWI along with several other charges. The arrest came after Troopers and Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Deputies observed Poole driving recklessly in Livingston Parish. At approximately 8:00 pm on August 19th, an off-duty Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputy observed a silver 2005 Nissan Altima driving erratically through the Watson area. The driver of the vehicle ran through several red lights at intersections and passed vehicles in no-passing zones. The off-duty deputy was able to stop the vehicle on LA Hwy 16 north of LA Hwy 1022. A Trooper who was in the area arrived on scene soon after and took over the investigation from the off-duty deputy. Upon coming into contact with the driver (Poole) the Trooper had reason to believe that he was under the influence of narcotics. Poole refused to perform standardized field sobriety testing, therefore the Trooper placed him under arrest for DWI. Upon performing a search of Poole’s Altima, the Trooper discovered nearly a gram of methamphetamine in two separate bags, as well as several items of drug paraphernalia. The Trooper also learned that Poole was driving with a suspended driver’s license. Upon being placed under arrest Poole was transported to the Livingston Parish jail where he was booked with DWI (3rd offense), Running a Red Light, Passing in a No Passing Zone, Operating a Vehicle with a Suspended License, Manufacture/Distribution of Schedule II Narcotics and Use of and Sale of Drug Paraphernalia. A toxicology sample was obtained from him at the Livingston Parish jail and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, the results of which are pending. Troopers wish to remind motorists that impaired driving and drugged driving continues to be a major problem throughout Louisiana. Whether impaired through alcohol, drugs, or a combination of the two, the consequences of driving while impaired remain the same. Troopers will actively enforce Louisiana’s DWI laws across the state and will remain committed to a public education campaign to end impaired and drugged driving.
