TROOP A NEWS RELEASE August 25, 2014 Student Injured in East Feliciana Parish School Bus/Pedestrian Crash Clinton – Shortly after 3:30 pm on August 25, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating an injury crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on LA Hwy 67 north of LA Hwy 959 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash injured a seven year old juvenile from Clinton. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as 67 year old Hoyt Norwood of Baker was driving a 2006 Ford Explorer northbound on LA Hwy 67. At the same time, a southbound school bus stopped on LA Hwy 67 and displayed its warning signs to allow children to disembark. The seven year old student exited the bus and began to proceed across LA Hwy 67. As she did, Norwood failed to stop for the bus and struck the juvenile in the northbound lane of the roadway. The juvenile suffered moderate to serious injuries as a result of the crash. She was transported via Acadian Ambulance to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. Impairment is not suspected on the part of Norwood, and he was uninjured in the crash. He was cited on scene for LRS 32:80 – Overtaking and Passing School Buses and LRS 32:415 – Operating a Vehicle with Suspended License. No other students were injured as a result, and this crash remains under investigation. Troopers wish to remind the public that while school is back in session please remain vigilant while driving, especially with the increase of school buses on the roadways. NEVER drive a motor vehicle when impaired or fatigued. Avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Contact Information: | |||
