Pedestrian Struck and Killed This Morning in Lafourche Parish

Houma, LA- Shortly after 1:00 am this morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a fatal crash that involved a pedestrian on LA 316 in Lafourche Parish. The crash took the life of 29 year old Tyler Authement of Houma, LA.

The investigation revealed that a 2008 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA 316, around Capri Court, in Houma, LA. The Sierra was being driven by Shelley Guffey (W/F age 36) of Houma, LA. As the Sierra was traveling, it struck Tyler Authement (W/M age 29) of Houma, LA, who was walking in the southbound lane of LA 316. Guffey, who was wearing her seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Authement was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending for Authement. Guffey submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. Charges have not been filled at this time, and this crash remains under investigation.


Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night. Bicycles must also have a lamp mounted on the front that shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet to the front. They shall also have a lamp mounted on the rear that will emit either a flashing or steady red light visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear.


Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
