Early Morning Crash Claims the Life of an Unrestrained Napoleonville Woman

Raceland, LA- Shortly before 1:00 am this morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that claimed the life of a Napoleonville woman on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north on LA 1 around box number 2549 in Raceland, LA. The Malibu was being driven by Dedric Clark (B/M age 38) of Thibodaux, LA. For unknown reasons, the Malibu traveled off the right side of LA 1 and struck a tree head-on. The unrestrained front seat passenger, Wanda Mayfield (B/F age 48) of Napoleonville, LA, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Clark, who was restrained, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Clark and the test results will be pending at the State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement. Never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcoholic beverage. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
