TROOP A NEWS RELEASE August 28, 2014 Baton Rouge Man Arrested after Driving over Twice the Speed Limit Baton Rouge – On August 27, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop “A” arrested 20 year old Dmonte W. Stockton of Baton Rouge for Reckless Operation. The arrest came after a Trooper observed him driving over twice the posted speed limit in East Baton Rouge Parish. Shortly before 10:00 pm on August 27th, 2014, a Trooper observed a 2005 Audi A4 traveling southbound on LA Hwy 30 (Nicholson Dr.) north of LA Hwy 327 (Gardere Ln.) Using his in-vehicle radar, the Trooper was able to determine that the Audi was traveling 129 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. After performing a traffic stop on the vehicle, the Trooper placed the driver (Stockton) under arrest for LRS 14:99 – Reckless Operation. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison. Troopers wish to remind motorists of the dangers of speeding. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) speed is a factor in approximately one out of three fatal crashes. Speeding is often considered a factor in fatal crashes because impaired drivers are more likely to speed, and speeding drivers are less likely to wear seat belts. Alcohol, lack of seat belts and speeding can easily become a deadly combination. Troopers will continue to enforce the laws of our state in an effort to reduce the amount of speeders and reckless drivers on our roadways. Contact Information: | |||
