TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE July 27, 2014 Lack of Seat Belt Use is Factor in Terrebonne Parish Fatal Crash Terrebonne Parish - This morning, shortly after 1:30 am, Louisiana State Police Troop C was notified of a fatal crash on Idlewild Drive near Rue Roxanne Street. The crash claimed the life of 35 year-old Leroy Whitley of Houma, LA. The crash investigation revealed that Whitley was driving a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria west on Idlewild Drive. For reasons still under investigation, the Ford exited the roadway to the right and entered a ditch. Whitley overcorrected the vehicle to the left, crossed both lanes on Idlewild Drive and exited the roadway to the left. The vehicle then overturned on its roof in a ditch. Whitley was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Impairment is unknown and toxicology results are pending an autopsy. The crash remains under investigation. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
