TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE August 22, 2014 Thibodaux Woman Killed after Head-On Crash in Lafourche Parish Thibodaux, LA- Shortly after 12 pm this afternoon, a 65 year old Thibodaux woman was killed when her vehicle was struck head-on in Lafourche Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2008 Dodge Ram was traveling south on LA 308 near the Lafourche Crossing in Thibodaux, LA. The Dodge was being driven by Corey Melancon, (W/M age 19) of Thibodaux, LA. For unknown reasons, the Dodge traveled off the right side of LA 308, and Melancon attempted to re-enter the roadway. Melancon overcorrected back to the left, causing the Dodge to cross the centerline and strike a 2007 Nissan Maxima, that was traveling north on LA 308, head-on. The Nissan was being driven by Ethal Robinson, (B/F age 65) of Thibodaux, LA. Melancon, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected during the crash. Melancon was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. Robinson, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Melancon and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Routine toxicology tests are pending for Robinson. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. | |||
