Unrestrained Thibodaux Man Dies in Terrebonne Parish Crash

Schriever, LA- Shortly before 5:30 am this morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two vehicle crash that killed a 28 year old man from Thibodaux on LA 24 in Terrebonne Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2008 Infinity Q45 was traveling north on LA 24 just south of the Schriever overpass in Schriever, LA. The Infinity was being driven by Ronnie Hawkins (B/M age 28) of Thibodaux, LA. For unknown reasons, the infinity traveled off the left side of LA 24 North and began to rotate counter-clockwise across a small raised median. The Infinity began to overturn as it entered the southbound lanes of LA 24 South. A 2008 Toyota Tundra, driven by Terry Naquin (W/M age 55) of Thibodaux, LA, was traveling south on LA 24. Naquin was unable to avoid the crash and struck the Infinity. Hawkins, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Naquin, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Impairment is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending for Hawkins. Blood was taken from Naquin and test results will be pending at the State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind drivers to always be aware of their surroundings and avoid distractions when behind the wheel of a vehicle. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
