Luling Man Killed in St. James Parish Crash

Donaldsonville, LA- Shortly before 5:30 pm yesterday afternoon, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a fatality crash that claimed the life of a 19 year old Luling man on LA 3127 in St. James Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling south on LA 3127 near the Ascension Parish Line. The Camaro was being driven by Erskine Webster III (B/M age 19) of Luling, LA. As the Camaro was traveling south on LA 3127, it attempted to pass several vehicles in the rain. At the Same time, a 2010 Dodge Ram was traveling north on LA 3127 approaching the Camaro. The Ram was being driven by Anthony Abadie (W/M age 51) of Reserve, LA. Webster lost control of the Camaro as he was passing, and the vehicle began to spin clockwise. The Ram struck the Camaro on the driver’s side door. Webster, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. Abadie, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with moderate injuries.

Impairment is unknown at this time, and routine toxicology tests are pending for Webster. Blood was taken from Abadie and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists to slow down in bad weather conditions and only pass in designated passing zones when it is safe. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
