TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE April 5, 2015 Motorcyclist Dies on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish Crash Lockport, LA- Shortly after 3 pm this afternoon, a 48 year old Lockport man was killed on LA 1 after he drove his motorcycle off the road and struck a tree. The investigation revealed that a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling north on LA 1, just south of the Valentine Bridge, in Lafourche Parish. The motorcycle was being driven by Troy Billiot, (W/M age 48) of Lockport, LA. Billiot failed to negotiate a left curve on LA 1 and traveled off the right side of the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the motorcycle traveled down an embankment and ejected both Billiot and his passenger, Melissa Duran, (W/F age 41) of Lockport, LA. Billiot, who was wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, struck a small tree after he was ejected and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Duran, who was wearing a US D.O.T. helmet, was transported to LSU Interim Hospital in New Orleans with moderate injuries. Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. Never get behind the wheel of a vehicle or drive a motorcycle if you have had any alcohol to drink. Motorcyclists must wear a proper US D.O.T. helmet when operating their motorcycle on Louisiana roadways. Although not all crashes are survivable, properly utilizing safety equipment like approved motorcycle helmets and seatbelts decrease your risk of serious injury or death. | |||
