Unrestrained Larose Man Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash

Cut Off, LA- Shortly after 11:30 pm last night, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that claimed the life of a Larose man on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 1998 Chevrolet Pick Up Truck was traveling south on LA 1 near West 56th Street in Cut Off, LA. The Chevrolet was being driven by Chris Ougel (W/M age 56) of Larose, LA. For unknown reasons, the Chevrolet failed to negotiate a left hand curve on LA 1 and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The Chevrolet entered a ditch where it struck a concrete driveway. Ougel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending for Ougel. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
