TROOP A NEWS RELEASE September 1, 2014 Unrestrained Driver Killed in Single Vehicle Ascension Parish Crash Gonzales – Shortly before 3:15 am on September 1, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 22 west of LA Hwy 16 in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 37 year old Robert G. Falcon, Jr. of Maurepas. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Falcon was driving a 2003 GMC Yukon eastbound on LA Hwy 22. As Falcon, Jr. approached a right hand curve, his vehicle ran off the roadway to the left. Upon doing so Falcon overcorrected, causing his vehicle to reenter the roadway. The Yukon then rolled several times on the roadway. Falcon, Jr. was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales where he succumbed to injuries received in the crash. Impairment is unknown at this time; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Falcon, Jr. and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use, especially on a busy Labor Day holiday. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up.
