Unrestrained Passenger Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash

Thibodaux, LA- Shortly after 9 pm yesterday evening, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that claimed the life of a 36 year old Houma man on Bayou Blue Bypass Road in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2000 Honda Accord was traveling east on Bayou Blue Bypass Road. The Honda was being driven by Anzlie Naquin (B/F age 27) of Thibodaux, LA. The Honda had just exited a small left curve, when the vehicle crossed the centerline and traveled off the left side of the roadway. After leaving the roadway, the Honda struck a ditch that caused the vehicle to travel through the air and overturn. Markeith Folse (B/M age 36) of Houma, LA, was not restrained and was ejected out of the Honda during the crash. Folse was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, but later died from his injuries sustained in the crash. Naquin, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries in the crash and refused treatment.

Naquin submitted to a breath test and was found to be more than double the legal limit of 0.08g%. Naquin was arrested for Vehicular Homicide and Careless Operation. This crash remains under investigation.

Never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcohol, and always make sure you have a plan in place. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
