Unrestrained Thibodaux Man Killed in Terrebonne Parish Crash

Thibodaux, LA- Shortly after 11 am this morning, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a fatality crash that claimed the life of a 69 year old Thibodaux man on LA 20 in Terrebonne Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2014 Dodge Charger was traveling south on LA 20, just south of the Lafourche Parish line. The Charger was being driven by Dantionle Cheatham (B/M age 32) of Thibodaux, LA. At the same time, a 1991 Lincoln Towncar was stopped facing east in a parking lot exit waiting to cross LA 20. The Lincoln was being driven by Henry Coleman (B/M age 69) of Thibodaux, LA. The Lincoln failed to yield to traffic and pulled into the path of the southbound Charger. The Charger struck the Lincoln in the driver’s side door, causing the unrestrained driver to be thrown inside the vehicle. Coleman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Cheatham, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

Impairment is unknown at this time, and routine toxicology tests are pending for Coleman. Blood was taken from Cheatham and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
