Pedestrian Struck and Killed Last Night in Terrebonne Parish

Chauvin, LA- Shortly before 10:30 pm last night, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a fatal crash that involved a pedestrian on LA 58 in Terrebonne Parish. The crash took the life of 28 year old Shane Authement of Montegut, LA.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on LA 58, near the 300 block, in Chauvin, LA. The Toyota was being driven by Ernie Driskill (W/M age 53) of Montegut, LA. As the Toyota was traveling, it struck Shane Authement (W/M age 28) of Montegut, LA, who was walking in the outside portion of LA 58. Driskill, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Authement was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

Impairment is a factor in the crash. Driskill submitted to a breath test and was found to be over the legal limit of .08g%. As a result, Driskill was charged with Vehicular Homicide. Alcohol impairment is also suspected for Authement, and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.


Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. Always have a plan in place, and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcohol. Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night.


Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
