TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE December 8, 2014 Houma Man Dies in Lafourche Parish Crash Houma, LA- Shortly after 6 am this morning, Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that claimed the life of a Houma man on LA 316 in Lafourche Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2000 Toyota Tacoma was traveling south on LA 316, around mailbox number 1634, in Lafourche Parish. The Toyota was being driven by Gustavo Meza-Andino (H/M age 37) of Houma, LA. For unknown reasons, the Toyota traveled off the right side of LA 316. The Toyota re-entered the roadway, and the driver overcorrected back to the right causing the vehicle to travel off LA 316 for a second time. After the vehicle left the roadway, it began to overturn as it struck a utility pole. The Toyota finally came to rest on its roof in a drainage canal. The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, had to be extracted from the submerged vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcoholic beverages. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: Tfc.
