Unrestrained Cut Off Man Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash

Thibodaux, LA- Shortly after 8 pm yesterday evening, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a single vehicle fatality crash that claimed the life of a 29 year old Cut Off man on LA 308 in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2003 Ford F-250 was traveling north on LA 308, just north of the St. Charles By-Pass Road. The Ford was being driven by Tyler Cheramie (W/M age 29) of Cut Off, LA. For unknown reasons, the Ford crossed the center line of LA 308 and traveled off the left side of the road where it struck a utility pole and a culvert to a driveway. The culvert caused the vehicle to travel through the air and land back down, where the vehicle struck a small tree and a second utility pole. The vehicle then rolled over and came to rest on its roof. Cheramie, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Coroner’s Office. Cheramie was the only occupant inside the vehicle during the crash.

Impairment is unknown at this time, and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.


While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.



Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
