Head-On Crash Kills Houma Man in Terrebonne Parish

Houma, LA- Shortly after 8:30 pm yesterday evening, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a head-on fatality crash that claimed the life of a 52 year old Houma man on LA 57 in Terrebonne Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2003 Mazda 6000 was traveling north on LA 57 around box number 2693 in Houma, LA. The Mazda was being driven by Murphy Babin III (W/M age 52) of Houma, LA. As the Mazda was traveling north on LA 57, it failed to negotiate a right hand curve. The Mazda crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane of LA 57 where it struck a 2014 Chrysler 200 head-on. The Chrysler was being driven by Lloyd Domangue (W/M age 68) of Chauvin, LA. Babin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected during the impact and pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office. Domangue, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Terrebonne General Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Impairment is unknown at this time, and routine toxicology tests are pending for Babin. Blood was taken from Domangue and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. This crash remains under investigation.


While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.



Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
