TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE July 20, 2014 Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Lafourche Parish Raceland, LA- Shortly after 10 pm yesterday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed after he walked into the path of a vehicle on LA 1 near Hospital Drive in Lafourche Parish. The investigation revealed that David Bergeron (W/M age 29) of Raceland, LA, along with two friends, were standing off the west side of LA 1 waiting to cross. For unknown reasons, Bergeron attempted to cross LA 1 and walked directly into the path of a 1997 Ford F-150 traveling south on LA 1. The F-150 was being driven by Billy Duet (W/M age 51) of Raceland, LA. Bergeron was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Duet, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Alcohol use or impairment is unknown, but routine toxicology tests are pending for Bergeron. Duet submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads, and not to operate any form of transportation under the influence of alcohol. Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so.
