Pedestrian Struck and Killed This Morning in Lafourche Parish

Larose, LA- Shortly after 1:30 this morning, a pedestrian was struck and killed after he walked into the path of a vehicle on LA 657 in Larose, LA.

The investigation revealed that a 38 year old Hispanic male attempted to cross LA 657, just north of LA 308, and walked into the path of a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado that was traveling south on LA 657. The Silverado was being driven by Elmer Lagos (Hispanic Male age 32) of Galliano, LA. Lagos, who was wearing his seat belt, was not injured in the crash. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. The pedestrians’ identity will be released as soon as notification can be made to his family.

Investigating Troopers report that alcohol impairment is unknown at this time for the pedestrian, and routine toxicology tests are pending. Lagos submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. No charges have been filled for Lagos, and this crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night. Bicycles must also have a lamp mounted on the front that shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet to the front. They shall also have a lamp mounted on the rear that will emit either a flashing or steady red light visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear.


Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
