TROOP A NEWS RELEASE July 1, 2014 Troopers Seize Nearly 20 Pounds of Designer Drug “Molly” During Interstate 10 Traffic Stop Port Allen – On June 30, 2014, Louisiana State Troopers arrested four Florida residents for narcotics related charges following two traffic stops on Interstate 10 in West Baton Rouge Parish. The traffic stops yielded nearly 20 pounds of narcotics used to produce a type of MDMA referred to as “Molly.” Shortly before 2:00 am on June 30th, Troopers stopped a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu (driven by 32 year old Tavis Williams of Palatka, FL) on I-10 eastbound near Port Allen. During the traffic stop, Troopers became suspicious of Williams and utilized a Baton Rouge City Police Department K-9 which alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, Troopers located nearly 20 pounds of a mixed powder substance containing suspected heroin, methamphetamine, and ecstasy hidden in a duffle bag in the trunk of the vehicle. These narcotics when mixed together are commonly referred to as a type of MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine) known as “Molly.” At approximately the same time, Troopers also stopped an eastbound 2008 Toyota Camry on I-10 west of Port Allen for a traffic violation. During the course of the traffic stop, Troopers were able to determine that the occupants of the Camry (driver - 43 year old Maurice J. Jackson of Jacksonville, FL, 53 year old Cecil E. Saddler of Jacksonville, FL, and 30 year old Wilhelmina L. Foster of Palatka, FL) were working together with Williams to transport the narcotics. Williams was placed under arrest and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish jail for Improper lane usage, Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics, and Attempt and conspiracy to distribute Schedule 1 narcotics. Jackson, Saddler and Foster were also arrested and booked into the West Baton Rouge Parish jail. They were charged with Possession with intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics and Attempt and conspiracy to distribute Schedule 1 narcotics. Jackson was also charged with Improper display of plate. According to the Louisiana State Analytical and Fusion Exchange Center (LA-SAFE), nineteen pounds of these narcotics combined together equates to nearly 20,000 dosage units of MDMA (“Molly”) and has a street value of approximately $500,000. Louisiana State Troopers will continue to provide the citizens of Louisiana a safer community through proactive drug related enforcement and cooperative efforts with local and federal law enforcement agencies. Troopers will target local and multi-state drug trafficking organizations by enforcing all state and federal laws governing the illicit manufacturing, distribution, sale, and use of drugs.
