Unrestrained Driver Ejected and Killed in Single Vehicle Rollover Crash

Napoleonville, LA- Shortly after 1 AM this morning in Assumption Parish, a Pierre Part man was killed after being ejected in a single vehicle rollover crash on LA 401.

The investigation revealed that a 2005 Dodge Ram was traveling east on LA 401 in Napoleonville, LA. The Dodge was being driven by Kerry Huey (W/M age 30) of Pierre Part, LA. As the Dodge traveled east, the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway. Huey attempted to re-enter the roadway, but over corrected causing the vehicle to rotate counter clockwise and cross both lanes of LA 401. The Dodge began to roll after it traveled off the left side of LA 401. Huey, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle as it rolled. Huey was pronounced died on the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office.

Investigating Troopers suspect that alcohol is a factor in the crash and toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

Louisiana State Police Troop C reminds everyone to have a designated driver and to help make this a safe holiday.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
