TROOP A NEWS RELEASE June 30, 2014 Unrestrained Jackson Woman Killed in E. Feliciana Parish Fatal Crash Clinton – Shortly after 10:30 pm on June 29, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 10 west of LA Hwy 961 in East Feliciana Parish. The crash took the life of 66 year old Jo Ann M. Ryals of Jackson, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Ryals was driving a 2005 Nissan Quest westbound on LA Hwy 10. For unknown reasons Ryals ran off the roadway to the right. She then overcorrected, crossed over the center line into the eastbound lane of travel and exited the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway the Nissan struck several trees and a culvert. Ryals was unrestrained at the time of the crash, and she suffered fatal injuries as a result. Driver impairment is not suspected; however, a toxicology sample was taken from Ryals and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Contact Information: | |||
