TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE October 28, 2013 Driver Dies at Hospital After Submerging His Vehicle in Bayou Lafourche Larose, LA- Shortly after 3 PM yesterday afternoon, Louisiana State Police Troop C investigated a fatality crash on LA 1 in Lafourche Parish where a driver later died at the hospital after submerging his vehicle in Bayou Lafourche. The investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling south on LA 1 in the town of Larose, LA. The Cavalier was being driven by Isaias Torres (O/M age 43) of Lockport, LA. As the Cavalier was heading south it traveled of the left side of LA 1 and flipped upside down as it entered Bayou Lafourche. The Cavalier became submerged in Bayou Lafourche and trapped Torres until he could be extracted from the vehicle. Torres, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Saint Anne Hospital where he was treated and then flown to University Hospital in New Orleans. Torres later passed away at University Hospital due to his injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, and blood was drawn from Torres. The test results will be pending at the State Police Crime Lab. This crash is still under investigation. Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads, and not to operate any form of transportation under the influence of alcohol. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash. Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police. Contact Information: Tfc.
