TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE November 1, 2013 Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck in Lafourche Parish Larose, LA- Shortly after 7 PM yesterday afternoon, a pedestrian was struck and killed as she crossed LA 657 in Lafourche Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on LA 657 approaching LA 1. The Silverado was being driven by Jace Griffin (W/M age 26) of Galliano, LA. As the Silverado traveled east on LA 657, a pedestrian walked out into the path of the vehicle. The Silverado was unable to avoid the pedestrian in time and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian was later identified as Joann Preston (W/F age 55) of Larose, LA. Preston, who was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Griffin, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Griffin submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. Impairment is unknown at this time for Preston and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcoholic beverages. Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night.
