TROOP A NEWS RELEASE May 25, 2014 Baton Rouge Man Killed in Fatal Crash on River Road Baton Rouge – Shortly after 3:30 am on May 25, 2014, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 327 (River Rd.) north of Ben Hur Rd. in East Baton Rouge Parish. The crash took the life of 44 year old Jonas E. Heath of Baton Rouge, LA. The initial investigation by State Police revealed that the crash occurred as Heath was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry southbound on LA Hwy 327. For unknown reasons Heath failed to negotiate a left hand curve and his Toyota ran off the roadway to the right. After leaving the roadway the Camry struck the side of the levee and overturned several times. Despite the fact that he was wearing his seatbelt Heath sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Driver impairment is unknown at this time, and a toxicology sample was taken from Heath and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Although not all crashes are survivable, Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use, especially during a busy Memorial Day weekend. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash Contact Information: | |||
