Pedestrian Struck and Killed on LA 654 in Lafourche Parish

Gheens, LA- Shortly before 9 PM yesterday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed while she was walking with her children on LA 654 in Gheens, LA.

The investigation revealed that a 1994 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on LA 654 by the St. Anthony Church in Gheens, LA. The Silverado was being driven by Michael Head (W/M age 46) of Gheens, LA. The pedestrian, Chantelle Ledet (W/F age 31) of Gheens, LA, was walking west in the eastbound lane of LA 654 with her two children when Ledet was struck by the Silverado. Head, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Ledet was transported to Oschner St. Anne Hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries sustained in the crash. The children, 9 and 11 years old, were not injured in the crash. Ledet was wearing dark clothing in an area that was dark with no street lights.

Impairment may be a factor for Ledet, and routine toxicology tests are pending. Head submitted to a breath test and was found to be below the legal limit of .08g%. Charges have not been filled at this time, and this crash remains under investigation.
