Head-On Crash Kills a Cut Off Man in Lafourche Parish

Fourchon, LA- Around 2:30 PM this afternoon, a 48 year old Cut Off man was killed when his vehicle traveled across the center line and stuck an eighteen wheeler head-on in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 Ford F-150 was traveling south on LA 3090, just south of LA 1 in Fourchon, LA. The F-150 was being driven by Patrick Terrebonne, (W/M age 48) of Cut Off, LA. For unknown reasons, the F-150 crossed the LA 3090 center line and entered the northbound lane. At the same time, a 2011 Peterbilt Tractor/Trailer was traveling north on LA 3090 approaching the F-150. The Peterbilt was being driven by Quint Marceaux, (W/M age 39) of New Iberia, LA. Marceaux, in an attempt to avoid the crash, steered to the right and entered the northbound shoulder of LA 3090. The F-150 continued to travel across the northbound lane and onto the northbound shoulder where it struck the Peterbilt head-on. Terrebonne, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Marceaux, who was wearing a seat belt, received very minor injuries in the crash, but was not transported to an area hospital.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time and routine toxicology tests are pending for Terrebonne. Marceaux submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind motorists of the dangers of impaired driving. While there have been fewer deaths associated with impaired driving in recent years, there is still much room for improvement. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
