Child Killed and Several Injured after Hit-&-Run Vehicle Strikes House in Terrebonne Parish

Gray, LA- Shortly before 2:30 this morning, a 2 year old child was killed and three others injured when a vehicle traveled into a house after it attempted to flee the scene of a crash on LA 24 in Terrebonne Parish.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling south on LA 24 in the left lane, just north of the Lost Bridge in Terrebonne Parish. The Silverado was being driven by Tony Milligan, (W/M age 20) of Houma, LA. As the Silverado was traveling south on LA 24 it approached a 2014 Honda Accord that was also traveling south in the left lane. The Silverado failed to slow down and struck the Honda from behind. The Honda was being driven by Bao Luu, (O/M age 20) of Houma, LA. After the crash, the Silverado fled the scene and continued south on LA 24 towards the Lost Bridge. As the Silverado approached the Lost Bridge, it lost control and traveled off the left side of LA 24 where it struck a house at 1727 West Main Street (LA 24). Several occupants were inside the residence including Taylor Strickland, (W/F age 2), Brittany Strickland, (W/F age 24), and Lance Strickland, (W/M age 25) of Gray, LA. As a result of the impact with the residence, Taylor Strickland suffered serious injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where she later died due to her injuries. Brittany and Lance Strickland were also transported to Thibodaux Regional Hospital where they remain in stable condition. Milligan, who was not wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and was transported to Thibodaux Regional. Luu, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the initial crash.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash. Blood was taken from Milligan and the test results will be pending at the Louisiana State Police crime Lab. Milligan was arrested and booked into the Terrebonne Parish Jail on the charges of Vehicular Homicide, Careless Operation, and No Seat Belt. This crash remains under investigation.

Troopers remind everyone to remain safe on the roads, and not to operate any form of transportation under the influence of alcohol. Always have a plan and never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcoholic beverages. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
