Golden Meadow Man Found in Submerged Vehicle in Terrebonne Parish

Cocodrie, LA- At an unknown time this morning, a 29 year old Golden Meadow Man submerged his vehicle after traveling off LA 56 in Terrebonne Parish, and was later discovered deceased inside the vehicle.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA 56 when it traveled off the road and struck a fence pole, concrete barrier wall for gasoline storage tanks, and three support pilings belonging to the Boudreaux’s Marina at 8250 Hwy 56 before traveling into the water.

The owner of the Boudreaux’s Marina contacted Louisiana State Police shortly before 6 AM this morning when he opened the Marina and indicated that a vehicle had damaged his property and that his gas storage tanks were leaking fuel. The fuel tanks were able to be sealed and the remaining fuel was contained and cleaned up. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Water Patrol arrived on scene and was able to locate the submerged vehicle in the water. The vehicle was recovered from the water and the driver was found deceased inside the vehicle. The driver was later identified as Shawn Dardar, (W/M age 29) of Golden Meadow, LA. Dardar, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time, and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation.

While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
