TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE May 2, 2014 Three Unrestrained Teens Seriously Injured after being Ejected from a Vehicle in Assumption Parish Belle Rose, LA- Shortly before 9 PM yesterday evening, three teens were seriously injured after they were ejected from a vehicle when it overturned on LA 70 in Assumption Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2014 Nissan Sentra was traveling west on LA 70 in Assumption Parish. The crash occurred after the Sentra passed another vehicle in a curved, no-passing zone, portion of LA 70. The Sentra made a quick evasive action back into the westbound lane of LA 70 and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The Sentra began to rotate as it traveled through a ditch and finally overturned. All three occupants, who were unrestrained, were ejected from the vehicle as it overturned. The occupants of the vehicle were, Alaina Landry (W/F age 18 of Pierre Part, LA), Brandy Landry (W/F age 17 of Labadieville, LA), and Katie Metzler (W/F age 18 of Pierre Part, LA). Due to the fact that all the occupants were unrestrained and received serious injuries after being ejected, the investigation is ongoing to determine which teen was driving the Sentra. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash. Alcohol use is unknown at this time, and this crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists to always obey all traffic laws, and never pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. | |||
