Raceland Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Lafourche Parish

Raceland, LA- Shortly before 7 PM yesterday evening, a pedestrian was struck and killed after he walked into the path of a vehicle on LA 1 in Raceland, LA.

The investigation revealed that a 2009 Ford F-150 was traveling north on LA 1, north of US 90, in Raceland, LA. The Ford was being driven by Candy Baudoin (W/F age 19) of Lockport, LA. For unknown reasons, Kenneth Hughes (B/M age 55) of Raceland, LA, attempted to cross LA 1 as the vehicle approached, and walked into the path of the F-150. Baudoin, who was wearing her seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Hughes was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Hughes was wearing dark clothing in an area that was dimly lit by street lights.

Alcohol use or impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology tests are pending for Hughes. Baudoin submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation.

Pedestrians should always be aware of their surroundings and make sure to cross intersections and streets when it’s safe to do so. Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night. Bicycles must also have a lamp mounted on the front that shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least five hundred feet to the front. They shall also have a lamp mounted on the rear that will emit either a flashing or steady red light visible from a distance of five hundred feet to the rear.

Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
