TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE March 18, 2014 Early Morning Crash Claims the Life of a Houma Man and His Son in Lafourche Parish Houma, LA- Shortly before 7 AM this morning, a 56 year old Houma man and his 33 year old son were killed when his vehicle crossed the center line of LA 316 and struck an eighteen-wheeler head-on. The investigation revealed that a 2010 Nissan Maxima was traveling north on LA 316 just south of Country Estates Drive in Lafourche Parish. The Maxima was being driven by Theodule Marcel, (W/M age 56) of Houma, LA. For unknown reasons, the Maxima crossed the centerline of LA 316 and struck a southbound 2012 Kenworth eighteen-wheeler head-on. The Kenworth was being driven by Carl Hallows, (W/M age 62) of Galveston, TX. Theodule Marcel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office along with his son Kristofer Marcel, (W/M age 33) of Houma, LA, who was also unrestrained. Hallows, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured in the crash. Alcohol use is unknown at this time for Marcel, and routine toxicology tests are pending. Hallows submitted to a breath test and was cleared of any alcohol involvement. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers remind motorists to always be aware of their surroundings, and avoid distractions while behind the wheel of a vehicle. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. | |||
