TROOP C - NEWS RELEASE April 01, 2014 Belle Rose Woman Killed after Striking a Tree and Rolling Vehicle in Morning Assumption Parish Crash Belle Rose, LA- Shortly before 07:00 AM this morning, a 27 year old Belle Rose woman was killed when her vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree in Assumption Parish. The investigation revealed that a 2000 Dodge Durango was traveling south on LA 308, one mile south of LA 998, in Belle Rose, LA. The Durango was being driven by Constance Pitts, (B/F age 27) of Belle Rose, LA. The Durango failed to negotiate a slight left curve on LA 308 and traveled off the right side of the road where it struck a tree. The Durango began to rotate and roll over after striking the tree, and came to rest on its roof in the travel lanes of LA 308. Pitts, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, and routine toxicology tests are pending. This crash remains under investigation. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. | |||
