Fiery Lafourche Parish Crash Claims the Life of an Unidentified Person

Cut Off, LA – Shortly after 10:00 pm last night, Troopers from Troop C responded to a single vehicle fatality crash on LA 1 near West 58th Street in Cut Off. The vehicle caught fire, killing the driver inside.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Lincoln Town Car was traveling south on LA 1 at a high rate of speed. For unknown reasons, the driver ran off of the roadway to the right and struck a mailbox. The vehicle then reentered LA 1 and ran off of the roadway to the left where it struck a pole and became engulfed in flames. The driver and only occupant of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Investigators are working to positively identify the driver.

Alcohol and drug use are unknown and standard toxicology tests are pending. Seat belt use is also unknown at this time and the crash remains under investigation.

Speeding reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around curves or objects in the roadway. Speeding also extends the distance necessary to stop a vehicle and can lead to a more serious collision in cases where the vehicle strikes another object. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that the chances of surviving a crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Making good choices while in motor vehicles such as never driving while impaired, always ensuring every occupant is properly restrained, and avoiding all distractions can often mean the difference between life and death.
