TROOP C NEWS RELEASE October 14, 2016 Troopers Continue Their Investigations Resulting in another Insurance Fraud Arrest Berwick, LA – Louisiana State Police Insurance Fraud investigators made another arrest this morning stemming from a criminal investigation of a fraudulent insurance claim. LSP investigators arrested 28 year old Amber Beranek of Berwick, LA. On February 6th of this year, the Insurance Fraud / Auto Theft unit in Houma, LA was contacted by a Louisiana insurance company concerning allegations of insurance fraud. The company provided investigators with documentation claiming Beranek filed a false insurance claim stating she was injured in a single vehicle crash on September 10, 2015. Beranek said her vehicle damage and medical bills amounted to $9,277.00. During the course of the investigation, Troopers learned Beranek’s husband was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash and he was an excluded driver on the automobile policy. Troopers obtained an arrest warrant for Beranek and she turned herself in to investigators at the Berwick Police Department this morning. Beranek was booked into the Berwick jail on one count of Insurance Fraud. The crime of Insurance Fraud has been on the rise and State Police investigators are working hard to reduce the number of fraudulent claims in our state.
