Teen Bicyclist Struck and Killed in Lafourche Parish Crash

Raceland, LA – Shortly before 1:00 p.m. this afternoon, Troopers from Troop C began investigating a fatality crash involving a dump truck and a bicyclist on LA 182 just west of LA 1 in Raceland. The crash took the life of 13 year old Autumn Fuller of Raceland, LA.

The preliminary investigation revealed Fuller was traveling east on the westbound shoulder of LA 182 on a Mongoose bicycle. Randy Reulet, 56 year old of Raceland, was traveling east on LA 182 in a 2004 GMC C8500 in the eastbound lane. For unknown reasons, Fuller attempted to cross both lanes of LA 182 and struck the rear of Reulet’s vehicle. She sustained fatal injuries as a result of the impact and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office. Reulet was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

Alcohol and drug involvement is not suspected as a factor in the crash; however, standard toxicology reports are pending on the part of Fuller. Reulet submitted to a breath test which resulted in no alcohol present.

Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind bicyclists to never assume that a motorist can see you. Simple precautions such as wearing an approved bicycle helmet, reflective materials, and avoiding distractions are key to preventing crashes and avoiding injuries. Louisiana law requires bicyclists to remain as close to the right of side of the roadway as possible and obey all traffic laws.
