TROOP C NEWS RELEASE September 8, 2016 One Teen Killed, One Seriously Injured in Assumption Parish Crash Belle Rose, LA – Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on September 7, 2016, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C began investigating a two vehicle fatality crash on LA 1000 near LA 1002 in Assumption Parish. The crash took the life of 15 year old Sydny Landry and seriously injured a 12 year old juvenile, both of Belle Rose. The preliminary investigation revealed 38 year old Belle Rose resident Frannie Landry was driving a 2003 GMC Sierra on LA 1000 near the driveway of her residence. Landry was transporting her garbage cans to the highway with the help of Sydny and her 12 year old sister who were riding on the tailgate of her vehicle. Landry was stopped and facing east in the westbound lane of LA 1000 as 21 year old Belle Rose resident Corey Crochet was approaching westbound on LA 1000 in a 1998 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. Crochet turned his vehicle in an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, but struck Landry’s vehicle. Sydny and her juvenile sister were ejected from the tailgate. Sydny sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene by the Assumption Parish Coroner’s Office. The 12 year old juvenile sustained serious injuries and was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center in Baton Rouge via Acadian Air Med. Impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash. Both Landry and Crochet submitted a breath sample and no alcohol was present. Neither Landry nor Crochet sustained any injuries in the crash. This crash remains under investigation. Troopers wish to remind all drivers that dangers can arise from any activity on or around our highways.
